IBD and Government

Right now the is a bill floating aroung the House and Senate that could beneficial for us Crohnies. H.R. 2275 or S.981 would let Congress know that the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease at should expand research on IBD. Also, the bill would authorize for five years an IBD Epidemiology Program at CDC, and create an awareness program at the agency.

Please contact your legislator and urge them to co-sponsor the IBD Research and Awareness Act.

My Week - Less Pain, Less Prednisone, Add in Dicyclomine, and Maybe 6MP

Its been over a week since I wrote an entry. Nothing has really change with me. After checking in with the doctor's office, my Prednisone was cut again. They now want me to take only two and a half pills per day. I guess that is good news. They did add a medicine called Dicyclomine. I think they said for the cramps that I still have. I'm also starting to feel less pain after a bowel movement. I am happy about that. I was told by the doctor's nurse that to see what course of action we are going to take next that I have to have a test done. Looking at the test requisition, it's called Prometheus. On the sheet it looks like I am supposed to have a TPMT Genetics, TMPT Enzyme, IBD Serology 7, and Celiac Serology test done. Yeah, I have no idea what these are. But, I went to the lab the nurse referred me to, and the technitions there told that they were not sure they could do the tests. Diet and Crohn's Disease - Gluten Free

I hear stories online about gluten free diets and how they help crohn's disease sufferers. But I also hear stories about the food tasting like cardboard. That's why I want to try some meals for myself. For those who don't know, a gluten-free diet completely free of ingredients derived from gluten-containing cereals: wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, and triticale, as well as the use of gluten as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent. Thanks Wikipedia for that definition. The problem with going Gluten free is finding food. Gluten is in virtually every processed food. This is usually a diet for Celiac disease sufferers. When people have Celiac disease they are intolerant to gluten. Eating food with gluten causes the villi in their intestine to flatten. When this happens, they do not absorb food or nutrients. Happy Tuesday Crohnies!

Just wanted to give you all a quick update.  So, since starting the probiotics I've noticed a little change. Everything is a little more solid if you know what a mean. Haha.  It definitely takes some getting used to.  I've also picked up a new probiotic. I will post about that soon.  The blog has also gone through a little design change.  I wanted to make it cleaner looking and get rid of the gray.  I've been trying to squeeze in a little time for that in the evenings.  You may see it change and evolve over the next days or weeks.   I've been working on a few new posts. I hope to have some up soon.  There will be some about working out since I'm trying to build endurance and strength.  The handstand pic above is me trying to stay positive and happy in the gym.
